Blogsy is a new blogging app by Fomola that finally adds a desktop feel to the multi-touch gesture world of the iPad. The concept is awesome and brings new life to iOS blogging. In its infancy, it just barely misses perfection but will surely develop into the preferred iPad blogging app. Blogsy is simple enough to just pick up and use, but it is definitely recommended that the user to take some time to watch the “How-To” videos, where helpful formatting tips are explained along with all of the advanced features.
Blogsy is separated into two sections; the write side and the rich side. Jumping between sections is as simple as swiping across the composition screen giving the writer the best of both worlds. The write side, where most of the composition will take place, is the basic HTML view that is present in all iOS blogging apps. The rich side is what sets Blogsy apart. The blog is displayed closely to the way it will appear when posted and the features are all touch-and-select based. Simply select the desired content, then choose the formatting; bold and/or underline a word, add bullets to a list, paragraph alignment, etc. There is also a really slick in-app web browser that allows both pictures and/or links from websites to be added into blog posts simply by drag-and-drop.
There are only two issues that keep Blogsy from total dominance. The first is inconsistent formatting after saving a post or when closing and opening the app. Sometimes there are extra spaces added to a post and it is a pain to go back through to correct the changes. The other large downside is that currently media can only added to blog posts via 3rd party web-hosting sites; although the next update will bring the native upload that Blogsy desperately needs.
Blogsy is a huge step towards bringing a rich editing, blogging environment to the iPad. With a little more polish, including the native media attachment, the rest of the iOS blogging apps will have trouble playing catch up to the new standard Fomola has set. It’s going to be exciting watching the feature war between apps as blogging on iOS continues to gain impressive power.

Our Rating:

Hello, I am Lance, one of the guys behind Blogsy.
Thank you for writing about Blogsy. We are continuing to improve it so maybe one day you will give us that 5th star.
We were surprised when we read, "The first is inconsistent formatting after saving a post or when closing and opening the app. Sometimes there are extra spaces added to a post and it is a pain to go back through to correct the changes." Could you email us some screen captures so we can figure out what is going on? info(at)fomola.com
Also, I wanted to let your readers know that we have a voting page where they can vote for what they would like to see added to Blogsy after we have uploading done. – http://www.blogsyapp.com/about
Again, thanks for the review. Would you like us to let you know when we submit Blogsy with uploading to Apple?
Cheers,
Lance
Nice review. I'm looking forward to the native uploading, too, but the integration with Google Reader and Flickr is pretty amazing.
Lance, Blogsy is quickly becoming my favorite blogging tool. I'm really pleased with it. Thanks!
Really happy to hear that toddx!
1.0.2 should be out today or tomorrow. The next upgrade (pretty sure) will be for uploading. We can't wait to get it out there because that is the #1 thing people keep asking about. I think it's pretty slick and it has a few bells and whistles but I can't give anything away.
